The crunch of leaves under your feet, the bright pops of red, yellow and orange donning the trees, and the cool nights and crisp scents are vital signs that point to autumn. It’s hard to believe that in a few weeks some folks will be waking up to frosty windows or snowflakes patting the ground. However, here in Las Vegas, jeans and boots are coming back out of winter storage, and the rest of the country is calling us wimpy for believing 70 degrees is cold.
There was once a time in my life when I used to look forward to fall weather, as it was my first chance to jump back into bulky sweaters or anything else that hid my size. These days, I look at it as a chance to embrace the parts I love while camouflaging the parts I don’t consider perfect.
As I’ve grown wiser, I’ve learned that every body is beautiful and that you don’t need to cater to other peoples’ sensibilities or avoid their opinions. Thanks to this lesson, I no longer hide behind my clothing. Instead, it’s a time for me to bring back my favorite looks and pieces that are downright uncomfortable in 100+ degree weather.
So without further delay, here are my top picks for a fabulous and fierce autumn. Enjoy!
Hot Looks for Cooler Weather
Nothing says fierce like a moto jacket and, thankfully, this season is bringing back the grown-up punk look. Pair this staple with jeans for a casual look, or a great pencil skirt for a good-girl-gone-bad style infusion. For a more sophisticated take on staying warm and stylish, you can’t go wrong with a sweater cape — just make sure it doesn’t show your superhero cape underneath!
Beyond Your Basics
Jeans and leggings are fall classics, especially when paired with a fabulous pair of boots; faux leather calls out more of the moto-chic trend, and a girl can truly live in Levi’s.
A Little Unexpected
Fall is still a great time for the unexpected, like a great studded jumpsuit, or this very unexpected combination by Kiyonna; either one will definitely have you turning heads.
Pops of Color
Still a little shy about echoing the fiery hues of the trees around you head to toe? Rather, try out a little pop of color in footwear that will take you from this season to the next in style and in comfort!
