While everyone thinks of blushing brides in the spring, there is something special about couples who choose autumn to start their lives together. The spring is a time of hope when everything is new, fresh, and just beginning; fall reminds us that after the hope of spring and the hard work of summer comes the bounty and celebration of the harvest. These couples remind us that love takes work to sustain, not just hope and dreams, and I do not think it’s a coincidence that many of the weddings I’ve gone to in the fall have been second weddings.
When it comes to styling for a fall wedding, I love that one of the factors we don’t have to account for is “How hot is it going to be?” We can wear soft and graceful fabrics, or enjoy more formal looks with cool breezes and gentle evenings, comfortably transitioning from casual to formal events without that unpleasant warm and sticky feeling. Even better, fall weddings mean we’re never too hot to get up and dance the night away. Instead, we can focus on what weddings are really about — celebrating two people who have chosen to go all in and live life as a team, facing all of its challenges together, no matter what.
Classic & Chic: Nothing says timeless like a bride in a chapel-length veil and pure white gown. When it comes to meeting almost any dress code, you can never go wrong with a black dress, accentuated with just the right shoes and accessories to dress it up or down as needed. These dresses add just a touch of feminine lace, calling on one of fall’s prettiest trends.
Not Your Basic Black:Nothing says “Let’s celebrate!” like a fun print or traditional polka-dot with an unexpected twist. A fabulous dropped-waist, A-line dress always looks great on the dance floor, even while doing the chicken dance, and this graphic floral twist is a modern take on floral sheaths.
Black Tie Preferred:Those three words we all dread seeing on a wedding invitation don’t mean you can’t be ready to relax and have fun. Rather than opt for a staid black, I love this bright maxi by Rachel Pally, reminiscent of a Grecian columnar gown that screams for a fabulous statement necklace and great shoes. If standing out completely in a sea of black isn’t your thing, the deep charcoal of this gown lightens things up a bit with hints of sparkle and shine that will look all-night fabulous.
A Little Unexpected:Going to a nontraditional wedding? While I’ve been to a few Halloween Costume Ball weddings myself, there is something special about skirting (or pant-suiting) tradition. These combinations of draping and sheath silhouettes are unexpected. Add in the pops of color, or the fall take on pastels, and life is beautiful.
